When my Mom was 6 months pregnant with me, she went to visit my grandparents in Mexico for a month since she wasn’t going to be able to for some months after giving birth. To her surprise, I decided to come and say hi only a couple of weeks after her arrival. My Mom got sick while giving birth and since I was so small, I had to be in an incubator for a long time.
My loving grandparents built me an entire room as an incubator, and my grandma would have endless and sleepless nights, staying with me to make sure I was okay. By the time we had to come back to the US, the bond we had was so strong that my Mom didn’t have the heart to keep us apart, so I spent the next 18 years of my life traveling back and forth until it was time for me to settle down to study my career and move out of their place.
Last May, I had to forget life as it I knew it and devote all my time to my Grandma. She was diagnosed with Colon and Ovarian cancer that also expanded to her stomach. She fought like a champ but last Wednesday the doctor gave us the bad news. After a long and hard fight, Cancer won and she only has 1 month with us.
Since i’m not working, there’s no way for me to help my mom with the funeral arrangements because Grandma doesn’t want her body burried here. Like the song says, “México lindo y querido si muero lejos de ti que digan que estoy dormido y que me traigan aquí”... She wants to be burried with my uncle/brother that passed away 3 years ago. This is why this campaign exists. Thank you to the kind souls that help me and my Mom out, it means a lot to both of us.
