Fifteen-year-old Hayden Byerly is best known for his role as ‘Jude Jacob Adams Foster’ on ABC Family’s critically acclaimed drama series, The Fosters, about a mixed-race family of foster, adopted and biological children being raised by two lesbian women.
Hayden recently tackled a serious and important storyline when his character kissed his same-sex love interest, making Hayden the youngest actor to ever represent homosexuality on US network television. The maturity and grace with which he continues to tackle the show’s serious content landed Hayden on Variety’s “2015 Youth Impact Report,” celebrating young celebrities representing the next wave of Hollywood savvy and talent.
When he is not on set, Hayden enjoys school, reading comic books and playing video games. He can often be found at the park skateboarding and riding bikes with his little brother or hitting the slopes. Hayden grew up in Littleton, Colorado and currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
Through Hayden's experience filming The Fosters and meeting real foster children, he learned that these kids are often quickly moved in and out of homes and facilities. Many times, they have nothing but a garbage bag to put their belongings in and they lose or are forced to leave behind the few personal items they have when they move.
With this in mind, Hayden decided to create Hayden's Hope Totes, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, to provide duffle bags to the social service workers that meet and transport these kids every day. These bags bring a sense of safety, security and confidence to each child going through this process and offer them some stability and continuity by giving them a place to put their own clothes, toiletries and important personal belongings.
