HomelessNotHopeless: Help Our Most Vulnerable in Need

Covenant House is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, created in 1981 by Charleston citizens and the faith community, committed to helping those with the fewest resources. Their mission was to work for justice by offering direct services for West Virginians in need while creating social change through advocacy and education. Our founders recognized that by pooling their collective financial and material (food and clothing) resources, they would have greater impact.

Today, Covenant House is needed more than ever. In 2014, Covenant House served 40,149 West Virginia residents through our Drop In Center.

Our Drop In Center offers services every weekday to anyone who is in need. Services offered include:

· Utility & Housing Assistance

· Laundry services free of charge

· Showers free of charge

· Mail services/a permanent address for homelesscommunity members

· Phone and fax services free of charge

· Clothing/food pantry vouchers

· Medicaid, SNAP, and voter registrationapplication assistance

· Free, confidential rapid HIV testing

The Drop In Center welcomes tens of thousands of West Virginians living in poverty each year. Our clients are largely composed of the working poor, the elderly, and persons with disabilities; however, everyone is welcome. On average, 150 people visit our Drop In Center every day seeking services and a refuge from outside.

This video, narrated by Anna Sale, shows some of the impact Covenant House has had on local residents.

At Covenant House, we firmly believe in the idea #HomelessNotHopeless. We have seen the impacts that caring for others, treating all with respect, and our services can have on those whom we serve.

By purchasing a #HomelessNotHopeless product, you are supporting the operations of Covenant House’s Drop In Center, and are taking a stand against the stigma facing those without permanent housing, which, sadly,is still alive and well.
