Dr. Barbara Seniors Harkins Foundation has joined #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities, and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. To give back, our foundation will have ten new volunteers come in to work with our after-school book club. We will also be accepting on-line donations as well as selling special edition #GivingTuesday t-shirts for our 2017 Summer Film Camp.
Occurring this year on November 29, #GivingTuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving (in the U.S.) and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday to kick-off the holiday giving season and inspire people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.
We will be selling our limited t-shirts for the week leading up to and ending on #GivingTuesday. These are one of a kind!
When you buy a shirt, you'll know that all of the proceeds will go towards funding our #2k17FilmCamp. To be held next July, our Film Camp is aimed towards undeserved youth in Los Angeles, CA. Many of our Film Campers have never had the opportunity to learn about and explore a career in filmmaking. We will be able to provide more scholarships for campers, provide healthier snacks and lunches, as well as update some of our filmmaking equipment and gear.

About Dr. Barbara Seniors Harkins Foundation
The Dr. Barbara Seniors Harkins Foundation, established in 2005, is a non-profit that was started to motivate our youth to pursue higher education. Dr. Harkins believed that all children ‒ regardless of race, gender, or class ‒ deserved to enjoy the best possible future. She devoted her life to providing underprivileged children with the support and encouragement they needed to achieve that future. Based in Miami, Florida and Los Angeles, California, the Dr. Barbara Seniors Harkins Foundation strives to provide underserved youth with learning opportunities that are not readily available to them. To achieve this, we combine studying with more hands-on, out-of-school activities. We want to define the next generation of scholars not only by what they learn in the classroom, but also through their experiences beyond the textbooks and other traditional learning environments. The knowledge and skills we teach them today will enable them for tomorrow.
