My name is Anastasia Playter. I'm a small town girl from Iowa extremely in love with orca whales. I fell in love with and became passionate about orcas and ending orca captivity after watching the movie Blackfish, which is an absolute MUST see by the way. Blackfish motivated me to become more educated and knowledgeable about orcas and in doing so I decided that I wanted to do whatever I can to make a difference. Thus this campaign was born in order to generate money for orca research & welfare.
All profits from this campaign will be donated to the Orca Network (http://www.orcanetwork.org/Main/index.php?categories_file=Actions) & the Orca Research Trust (http://www.orcaresearch.org/). The Orca Network is a non-profit organization dedicated and committed to raising awareness about whales of the Pacific Northwest as well as providing them with healthy and safe habitats (You'd be alarmed to hear the damage pollution is causing in the whale population). The Orca Research Trust is an organization that was put in place to protect orca and their habitat, through conservation, education, and scientific research.
I want to use this tote as a way to start a conversation about captivity. It is shocking how little individuals know about the treatment of animals in captivity, particularly the treatment of orca whales. Orcas are majestic, social, playful, intelligent animals that deserve more respect and love than putting them in a tank will ever allow them. Imagine if you had to live in a tiny tank in a foreign environment away from your family where you are forced to perform daily and are fed very little for the rest of your life just for the amusement of others. I'm sure you'd be miserable too.
It's up to us to lend our voices to these precious animals that wholly deserve to be free. The ocean is their true home, and we need to do everything we can to get them there!
Help make a difference in the lives of these beautiful creatures!
